Supporting diversity in the architectural profession; developing a climate of success for disabled designers | The University of the West of England is carrying out research on behalf of the RIBA which aims to identify the good practice that facilitates equal opportunities for disabled people as entrants and practitioners in the profession. The study also aims to raise the profile of disabled architects and celebrate existing successes.
The RIBA considers that there are strong arguments for encouraging disabled people to become designers and for finding mechanisms to support architects who become disabled during their working lives.
To assist this research, an online questionnaire has been devised which we hope will be completed by the following groups of disabled people;
- architects
- students of architecture
- people who embarked on an architecture course or career in architecture but did not complete,
- people who considered a career in architecture, but were deterred from pursuing this ambition.
If you fall into any of these categories or know of anyone else who would be interested, we would be grateful if you would complete the questionnaire or pass the details on to those who you think would be interested.

If you have any questions or comments to make regarding the research, or would prefer to provide this information in an alternative form to the web questionnaire, please contact Lucie Gibson: lucie.gibson@inst.riba.org.
